“My first paycheck from the studio was spent on the road. (Written in Lebanese dialect,
typed in Arabic)”
What’s the idea behind your poster?
Traffic in Beirut is one of the most infamous aspects of living in the city. Because of limited access to well maintained public transportation services, many people who go to work take their cars which fills our condensed streets. As I took my sister’s hand-me-down car to work every day during rush hours, I couldn’t help but noticed that most of the money earned as an intern was most likely to be spent on wasted gas and parking spots. As I got stuck between cars on my way to or from work, I couldn’t help but spend this lost time thinking about my next step as a designer in this country that still has a hard time maintaining public spaces and giving back to its community. Although my shift gear is always going back to Neutral on the road, this transitional time allowed me to reflect on my status as a paid working student in Beirut.
